Bernhard co-edits book that nurtures improvisation in student music ensembles

Music Education professor Christian Bernhard co-edited the book, “Musicianship: Improvising in Band and Orchestra,” released through GIA Publications, Inc.

Dr. Bernhard and co-editor, Dr. David Stringham of James Madison University, assembled contributions from music educators in California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York, including Drs. Jill Reese and Richard Webb, both of Fredonia’s School of Music.

“Musicianship: Improvising in Band and Orchestra” presents philosophical, theoretical and practical tools to help band and orchestra leaders bring improvisation to their students. It includes practical lesson plans as well as necessary background information to help conductors incorporate improvisation into their work with ensembles of all sizes and ability levels.
