The Fredonia State Women's Volleyball Team (8-8, 4-1 SUNYAC) came home 2-0 after a weekend trip to the north country. The Blue Devils topped Potsdam, 3-1, to earn the weekend sweep in conference play.
 
The four-set score was 25-16, 25-13, 29-31, and 25-17.
 
Coach Geoff Braun was impressed with his team overall: "Our offense was consistent and everyone contributed. I thought we controlled most of the match with our serving and passing."
 
The Blue Devils improved in every set in Saturday's match. Hitting nine kills in the first set and 16 in the fourth. More importantly, their hitting percentage improved from .161 to .500 throughout the sets.
 
Emily Jones (Plainfield, Ill.) led her team in kills, recording 17 on the day. Sierra Keim (Shinglehouse, Pa.) had a team-high 16 digs to anchor the defense. Selena Brown (Queens) contributed to the defense, leading the team with three blocks.
 
The bench boss added, "Kourtney Krchniak (Lockport) did a great job with her decision making today. Christie Ackendorf (Amherst, N.Y.) was very effective attacking different zones with different speeds."
 
The Blue Devils return home on Friday, Oct. 8, hosting Oneonta at 6 p.m.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
