Celauro earns first collegiate win

The Fredonia State softball team wrapped up its Spring Trip with games against Carthage College and Macalester College on Friday. In the Devils' final game of the trip, freshman Mack Celauro went 5 2/3 innings to earn her first career win, a 7-4 victory. She gave up six hits and four runs -- one earned -- before Vanessa Galbraith came in for the save, retiring all four batters she faced. The Devils dropped the opener, 6-1.

Game 1
A double by Emily Chelius scored Allie Wandell for the Devils' only run in a 6-1 loss to Carthage. Wandell was 2-3 and reached base a third time with a walk. Alyssa Santiago had the team's only other hit.

Carthage scored two runs in the first, third, and fifth innings off of Chelius, who threw a complete game. She scattered nine hits, gave up five earned, and struck out five.

Game 2
Celauro shut out Macalester through the first five innings before being touched for four runs in the bottom of the sixth. By then the Devils put five runs on the board and maintained a 5-4 lead.

Galbraith came on with two outs and a runner on and retired the next four batters for the save. 

The Devils tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to give the final. 

Chelius had her second double in as many games for the Devils' only extra-base hit. 

Wandell and Mac Miller each had two RBI, and Megan Guidry and Wandell had two hits apiece.
