The Fredonia State women's volleyball team defeated SUNY Buffalo State University 3-0 earlier this season but could not hold back the Bengals in the second meeting, a 3-2 loss in the First Round of the SUNYAC Tournament.
The Devils won the first and third sets, 25-23 and 24-13. Buffalo State won the second and third, 25-19 and 28-26, before taking the fifth-and-deciding set, 15-9.
Kylie O'Brien had 14 kills, and Maeve Musilak had seven kills, five aces, and 17 digs. Molly Cassidy had 23 assists.
On defense, Hannah Lombardi and Donnilynn Sheldon both had four blocks, and Kailea Sullivan had 33 digs.
Buff State was led bu Ella Wittman (19 kills), Nicole Delli Colli (10 kills), and Schneider, Reagan (10 kills). April Jakubowski had six aces.
In the fifth set, the Bengals jumped out to a 5-0 lead. After a kill by Musielak, the Devils eventually cut the lead to two points, 8-6. However, Buff State scored six of the next seven to go up 14-7 before the Devils' season ended on a service error.
Fredonia State finishes the season at 12-16. Buff State moves to 15-15 and will go on to face No. 1 seed Cortland in the semifinals.
