The Fredonia State women's basketball team claimed a 55-38 victory over SUNY Buffalo State University on Saturday.

Laurell Brown and Allie Wandell led the way on offense, with Brown going for 10 points, and Wandell with 9. Mary Culeton picked up a total of 7 rebounds.

A quick start on offense found the Blue Devils up at half 27-9. Despite Buffalo State answering back with 29 points in the second half, the Bengals could not overcome the deficit.

It was back and forth between both teams in the first quarter. Fredonia's Renee Park started off the game with a layup two minutes in, but Buffalo State answered right back going up by three with a layup and a three pointer. Fredonia State then took control on offense, making three free throws, three layups and two jump shots to take a 15-9 lead after one.

Fredonia continued its offensive push throughout the second, putting up 12 points in total and holding Buffalo State to 0. Two three pointers from Mary Culeton and Sarah Seaman helped the offense close out the second quarter.

The Devils held a 27-9 lead at half.

Fredonia State immediately added four points at the start of the third, courtesy of Brown and Wandell. They were able to outscore Buffalo for a third straight quarter, 19-12.

The fourth quarter was all Buffalo State, outscoring the Blue Devils 17-9. Jadyn Jones and Emily Goostall both combined for 13 points to close out the final quarter.

The Devils improved to 5-14 overall and 2-12 in the conference. The Bengals fall to 2-19 and 1-13 in SUNYAC play.

The Blue Devils travel to Plattsburgh and Potsdam next weekend.
