The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped the Hilbert Hawks, 68-47, in its season-opening win.

Senior Morgan Davis (Allegany, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) led the team with 14 points and freshman Mary Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) added 10 to lead the offense as 11 different players found their way into the scoring column.

Culeton and Mackenna Nechwedowich (Berkshire, N.Y./Newark Valley) each grabbed a team-high seven boards. Freshman Renee Park (Union Springs/Union Springs) added nine points on three three-pointers, and dished out four assists.

The Devils shot a modest 44 percent (28 of 63) from the floor, while the Hawks hit on just 13 of 65 field goals (20 percent). The Devils connected on 6 of 13 threes, compared to Hilbert's 0 for 10.

Hilbert was led by Ashley Schroeder with 21 points, including 15 of 16 from the line. 

Fredonia State led 20-15 after one quarter, and stretched its lead to 36-17 by the half. The Devils would cruise to victory, dominating the second half as well.

Fredonia State outrebounded the Hawks, 47-37. 

Next up for the ladies is a Nov. 13 road trip to Allegheny College.

The men's basketball team opens its season on Tuesday vs. Allegheny College. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Dods Hall.

The Fredonia State men's track and field team had a strong showing this weekend at Westminster. The meet featured a number of Division I, II, and III schools. Cameron Sample had the top individual performance, a fourth place in the triple jump, and the 4x100 relay team took first place.

The Fredonia State softball team earned a series split against Plattsburgh and a sweep against Potsdam over the weekend to improve to 8-12 overall and 3-3 in the SUNYAC.
