Devils volleyball split in home tri-match
The Fredonia State women's volleyball team made quick work of Hilbert College, 3-0, before dropping a hard fought match to Case Western, 3-0, on Saturday. Case also played Hilbert in the tri-march, dropping the Hawks by a 3-0 count.
Against Hilbert, the Devils won the sets with scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-11. Eleanor Clarke and Erin Callahan led the Devils with six kills, and Kourtney Krchniak had four aces and 18 assists.
Defensively, the Devils received 11 digs from both Olivia Emley and Gabrielle Sordetto. They registered three blocks as a team.
In the second match of the day, CWRU cruised through the first set, 25-16.
The second set went extras before Case took a 30-28 win. The visitors kept the momentum and took the final set, 25-18.
Emily Jones led the offense with 11 kills and three aces. Krchniak directed the attack with 29 assists. Sierra Keim had 13 digs.
Although the Devils enjoyed a SUNYAC bye weekend, the rest of the conference finished league play and settled the playoff picture. The Devils claim the No. 4 seed and a home match vs. New Paltz, who they topped 3-0 earlier in the year.
To tune up for the playoffs, the Devils play host to Pitt-Bradford on Senior Night on Tuesday. They then travel to Nazareth for a tri-match next weekend, before the playoffs begin on Nov. 2.
