SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Julie Newell

SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Julie Newell, ’82, is Stage Director for Syracuse Opera’s production of Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide” on Sunday, Feb. 9 in Crouse-Hinds Theatre.

Conductor and chorus master for the event is former Fredonia graduate student Christian Capocaccia, and School of Music alumna Lucia Helgren, ’17, will be singing the role of Cunegonde.

Ms. Newell and Mr. Capocaccia were also involved during Fredonia’s semi-staged production of “Candide” as the Hillman Opera in 2004.
