Students and the campus community will be able to take part in a variety of activities when the Fredonia Counseling Center presents it World Mental Health Day Wellness Fair on Oct. 14 in and around the Williams Center.
The importance of mental health and wellness will be the focus of a free event sponsored by the Fredonia Counseling Center.
The SUNY Fredonia World Mental Health Day Wellness Fair takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room and on surrounding lawns.
Organizers say this campuswide, inclusive event is designed to increase mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and connect students with practical wellness tools and campus/community supports.
This year’s fair was planned in conjunction with SUNY Fredonia’s THRIVE campaign and supports Fredonia’s Strategic Plan and the statewide SUNY 25-Point DEI Plan by centering activities that promote holistic wellness, equity and belonging for all students.
Students will also be able to participate in “a variety of fun and relaxing wellness activities.” They include spending time with therapy dogs and horses, receiving a chair massage from a licensed massage therapist, participating in crafts and yard games, and enjoying the free food that will be available throughout the event.
The Oct. 14 event will also include:
- Equity-focused programming with activities and materials that “culturally responsive and accessible,” reflecting commitments in the SUNY 25-Point DEI Plan to reduce disparities in mental health access and to center historically underserved communities.
- A Counseling Center resource table offering referrals, crisis information (988) and sign-ups for ongoing supports
- Quiet spaces, on-site clinical staff, and trauma-informed facilitation to ensure participation is safe and welcoming for all students.
The goals of the fair include fostering student success, engaging the campus, and fostering community partnerships by providing hands-on wellness tools, academic support and opportunities for cross-campus collaboration.
