Fredonia State athletics, in conjunction with the State University of New York Athletic Conference, has canceled its spring seasons, effective immediately, due to the Covid-19 virus situation.

The cancellation affects the Blue Devil baseball, softball, women's lacrosse, and outdoor track & field regular seasons as well as non-traditional seasons for women's soccer, men's soccer, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.

The determination was made shortly after the NCAA canceled all of its winter and spring championships, most notably the NCAA men's and women's basketball championship tournaments. That caused the SUNYAC and its member schools to follow suit and cancel all spring events.

The NCAA announcement came just after 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon. It stated:

"Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men's and women's 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities."
