The Fredonia Wind Ensemble will present a concert that features a performance by Concerto Competition winner Dalian Bryan on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m., in King Concert Hall.

It was inspired by Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and employs the same instrumentation. It will be followed by “Sussex Murmurs Carol,” a traditional folk song, and “Immovable Do,” which was written around one single pitch; both are Percy Grainger compositions.

Mr. Bryan, a graduate student studying Music Theory/Composition and Music Performance, from Atlanta, Ga., will perform Karl Jenkins’ Concerto for Euphonium. It features two movements, “It Takes Two,” a tango, and a fun dance, “A Troika Tidy?”

The final selection will be David Maslanka’s epic Symphony No. 4, widely considered one of the top pieces of music for wind ensembles. Its backbone is the hymn tune “Old Hundred,” along with several other hymns such as the Bach chorales “Only Trust in God to Guide You” and “Christ Who Makes Us Holy” and original melodies which are hymn-like in nature.

The concert is free and open to the public.
