Guest artist recital to feature music of Boelter

A guest artist recital featuring music composed by Dr. Karl Boelter, former director of the School of Music, along with selections by other composers, will be held on Sunday, March 24, at 6 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.

Recording artist and soloist Aaron Engebreth (baritone) and Quinn Patrick Ankrum (mezzo), assistant professor of Voice at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, will join School of Music faculty members Dr. Anne Kissel (pianist) and Joe Dan Harper (tenor) in presenting Dr. Boelter’s “Souls,” settings of poems from Edgar Lee Masters’ “Spoon River Anthology.”

Songs by Jake Heggie, Robert Schumann and Henri Duparc, as well as the premiere of Boelter’s “Liberty,” are also included in the recital, which is free and open to the public.

Boelter served as director for 12 years until he stepped down in 2015.

Yan Jiang, a SUNY Fredonia sophomore double major in Public Accountancy and Business Administration-Finance, was one of 52 students from throughout the State University of New York selected to receive the Norman R. McConney Jr. Award for Student Excellence.
