Hilldale, Conti, Cottrell earn firsts

It its first meet since returning from its Winter Training in Florida, the men's swim team put up some positive results in a tri-meet with Oswego and Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. Three swimmers earned firsts, and several were just off the pace in second place.

Ian Hilldale topped the 200 free in a time of 1:52.06; Tyler Conti's 200 butterfly time of 2:09.54 was good enough for first; and Samuel Cottrell finished first in the 200 breast stroke in a time of 2:26.75.

The 200 medley relay team touched second in 1:46.01. Riker Smith joined Hilldale, Conti, and Cottrell.

Cottrell took a second in the 100 breast stroke in 1:06.49; Hilldale took second in the 100 free (50.33) and 200 IM (2:13.01); and Conti was second in the 500 free in a time of 5:25.60.

The team returns to the pool next weekend to play host to Brockport.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
