Kumro powers way to SUNYAC/PrestoSports AOTW

The SUNYAC office recognized senior softball player Nicole Kumro as the PrestoSports Softball Player of the Week on Monday. Kumro had a weekend to remember, with seven doubles and a triple in helping the team clinch the No. 5 spot for the SUNYAC Tournament.

On Friday in a split against Plattsburgh, she went 4-for-7 with a double and a triple. She drove in four runs in the Devils' 9-2 victory. Things picked up the next day.

Kumro doubled in all six at bats as the Devils took down Potsdam 11-0 and 11-3.

She also appeared in a non-conference game at Rochester. Overall, she was 11-for-16 for a .688 average in five games. In league action, she was 10-for-13 (.769) with a 1.462 slugging percentage. 

She upped her season batting average to .354 and now has 14 doubles. She also has 27 RBI and two homeruns, leading the Devils in all the aforementioned categories.

The team will take on Cortland at regular-season champion Geneseo's field in the First Round of SUNYAC Tournament.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
