Athletes of the Year Patrick McCrone and Erin Woods.

The Fredonia State Athletic Department held its annual senior recognition and awards banquet, The FREDDIES, recently. Patrick McCrone and Erin Woods were recognized as the Male and Female  Athletes of the Year. Cara Pellechia and Ethan Pitzman were named Rookies of the Year, and several other awards and recognitions were doled out.

  • Male Athlete of the Year - Patrick McCrone. Set two school records -- 400 IM and 100 backstroke. Second all time in the 200 backstroke. Scored 47 points at the SUNYAC Championship. Had 17 first-place finishes.

Other nominees included: Nick Abdo (Track), Kaleb Steward (Men's Soccer), and Jacob Wentland (Baseball) 

  • Female Athlete of the Year - Erin Woods. Fourth in the SUNYAC in goals and fifth in points. Top 10 in SUNYAC in shots on goal and shooting percentage.

Other nominees included: Sydney Buchko (Lacrosse), Bri Grazen (Soccer), and Kourtney Krchniak (Volleyball)

  • Male Rookie of the Year - Ethan Pitzman. Played in every games for the hockey team that went to the SUNYAC Tournament. Scored eight points (1G/7A). Scored six points in 16 SUNYAC games.

Other nominees included: Huddy Kwiatkowski (Soccer) and Nick Marsowicz (Track)

  • Female Rookie of the Year - Cara Pellechia. Two-time SUNYAC Champion in the pole vault, taking Indoor and Outdoor championships. Ranks 10th in the AARTF Regional Rankings (the regional meet is slated for May 17th).

Other nominees included: Laurell Brown (Basketball), Gabby Chilcott (Volleyball), and Brooke Grazen (Soccer)

  • Sandra Haight Award - Jack Irwin
  • Chi Alpha Sigma inductees (a 3.4 or higher GPA)

The Fredonia State men's track and field team had its final tune-up before the SUNYAC meet, taking part in the University of Rochester Spring Twilight Meet. Quillan Shimp took the podium, finishing first place in the 400m hurdles.

Unified game a smashing success

On April 25, Dods Hall on the campus of SUNY Fredonia was home to the annual Dunkirk-Fredonia Unified Basketball Game. In front of a raucous crowd, the two teams battled it out for four quarters.

Devils win two at The Wig

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.
