The Fredonia State women's tennis team enters the 2026–27 season with a veteran lineup, improved depth, and an expanded schedule that includes new opponents in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Head Coach Jane Gens said the additions were intentional, giving the Blue Devils more opportunities to compete against programs similar in size and skill while preparing for the demands of SUNYAC play.
The Blue Devils will be led by seniors Lucy Prevet and Gabbi Farr, both returning to anchor the top of the lineup. Prevet, a Fredonia, NY, native, and Farr, from Canandaigua (NY) Academy, bring match experience and leadership to a roster that has grown steadily over the past year. Juniors Allison Bartoszek and Amelia Stathatos also return to starting roles after contributing heavily last season. Bartoszek provides consistency in singles, while Stathatos adds versatility and strong court awareness in both singles and doubles.
Sophomore Emily Solazzo returns with a solid baseline game and improved doubles skills that Gens believes can help swing close matches. Senior Rylyn Tunstall, who joined the team late last season, has made rapid strides and is expected to play a larger role this fall. The roster also features newcomer Taylyn Stanton, whose high‑school experience that will enhance the team's depth and competitiveness.
Gens emphasized that one of the team's primary goals this season is elevating its doubles play. The Blue Devils showed improvement late last year but struggled to close out key doubles points that often determine match outcomes. Throughout the offseason, the team focused on net play, court coverage, and communication, aiming to convert more doubles opportunities into early leads. Gens said the group is excited to challenge itself with its next level of skills and believes the team's growth will be evident early in the season.
Fredonia State opens the 2026–27 campaign at home on Sept. 2 against Alfred before traveling to Franciscan on Sept. 4 and returning home to face Brockport on Sept. 5. The Blue Devils will host Houghton on Sept. 8 and Baldwin Wallace on Sept. 12 before heading to Thiel on Sept. 14 and St. John Fisher on Sept. 18. SUNYAC play begins Sept. 19 at Plattsburgh, followed by a home match against Penn State Behrend on Sept. 23. The conference slate continues with road matches at Oneonta on Sept. 25 and Delhi on Sept. 26, then returns home for SUNYAC contests against Oswego on Sept. 30 and Cortland on Oct. 3. The season concludes with the SUNYAC Tournament on Oct. 16–17 in Binghamton.
