Pink the Rink jerseys to honor all in 2021; goal to surpass $100,000 in donations

The 2021 Pink The Rink jerseys to be worn by the Fredonia State men's hockey team will contain the names of every person, couple, or group ever honored at the annual event.

The names will be ghosted in pink on both sides of the white jerseys the Blue Devils will wear when they face the Oswego Lakers on Fri., Feb. 19, 2021. It will mark the 15th season the Blue Devils will wear pink jerseys to honor cancer survivors.

Nameplate personalization began in 2008 and has resulted in well over $90,000 raised for the American Cancer Society.

"I thought it would be nice to get everybody's name on it," - Head Coach Jeff Meredith

Head Coach Jeff Meredith said he wanted to do something special to commemorate the milestone of surpassing $100,000 in donations. "I thought it would be nice," he said, "to get everybody's name on it."

Coach Meredith said sale of 2021 jerseys will begin September, so that more cancer survivors can be recognized. More information will be released as the date approaches.

The jersey was designed by Pop Tops Sportswear of South Easton, Mass. The names will appear on the jersey in alphabetical order by first name. The names of people honored as part of a couple or family group are listed separately.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
