President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning lecture slated for Dec. 1

Dr. Ann Siegle Drege

Dr. Ann Siegle Drege, a faculty member in the Department of English, will present the lecture on Dec. 1, “Engagement through Active Learning” as the 2020 recipient of the President’s Award for Teaching and Learning.

The lecture, slated for 2 p.m., will be held in Rosch Recital Hall. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. Ann Siegle Drege teachingAn associate professor in the Department of English, Dr. Siegle Drege is a graduate of Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English and received her Ph.D. from the University of North Dakota. As a teacher, she has experience in secondary schools and the two-year college, in addition to her teaching at SUNY Fredonia, and she continues to work with area middle and high schools through student teaching supervision. Her teaching and research interests include dynamic learning communities, drama pedagogy, and creativity in student learning along with modern and contemporary drama.  

Dr. Siegle Drege earned her bachelor’s degree from Minnesota’s Concordia College in English and Education, and formerly taught at Minot State University in Bottineau, N.D., where she served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and received an Excellence in Teaching Award. She has been a faculty member at SUNY Fredonia since 2003 and is the author of the book, “The Hard Work of Hope” (Langmarc, 2008). In addition to many conference and professional presentations, Dr. Siegle Drege's academic service has included, among other roles, English department chair, English Education Program Coordinator, and faculty advisor to Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Service to Students Award presented by the Office of Campus Life, and is a member of the board of directors of Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County and its current treasurer.

The lecturer will be introduced by SUNY Fredonia President Stephen H. Kolison Jr. A reception will follow the lecture in the lobby of Mason Hall.

Yan Jiang named recipient of SUNY’s McConney award

Yan Jiang, a SUNY Fredonia sophomore double major in Public Accountancy and Business Administration-Finance, was one of 52 students from throughout the State University of New York selected to receive the Norman R. McConney Jr. Award for Student Excellence.
