For the second-straight night, the Fredonia State men's basketball game would go right down to the closing seconds. Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, they came out on the short end, 91-89, vs. Plattsburgh after winning the previous night with the game winner coming in the closing seconds.
Martin Garza had a solid game, scoring 25 points, grabbing eight boards, and dishing out six assists. He was one of five seniors honored before the game for the team's annual Senior Night.
Fellow senior Ethan Sokolowski had 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Kofo Laditan, Antowan Holmes, and Dexter Brooks were the other three seniors.
Stevie Williams added 19 points, and Christian Williams, no relation, added 13 points.
Things looked good for the Devils in the first half. Their biggest lead of the game of 11 points came at the 12:27 mark following a 7-0 run. A Stevie Williams layup put them up 25-14.
By the half, the Cardinals clawed back into the lead, 50-46.
Late in the third, Christian Williams nailed a three to give the Devils a 79-78 lead, their first of the second half. There would be three more ties and three lead changes the rest of the way as the Cardinals eventually prevailed.
They were led by Reem Welch with 35 points and 10 rebounds. Elijah Morris added 18 off the bench.
The Devils play host to Cortland on Tuesday evening for their final home game of the year.
