Signups complete for virtual Harp Day at Fredonia
The Fredonia School of Music will host an online Harp Day, a free event, on Sunday, May 2, beginning at 10:30 a.m., for harpists of all ages and levels.
"Fredonia Harp Day has always been an exciting time to fill Mason Hall with harps of every size and harpists of every age and every level. It's a day filled with making new friends, playing music together, and finding inspiration," said Adjunct Lecturer Sonja Inglefield.
"This year will be virtual, so we've planned three online events to continue the traditional spirit of camaraderie,” said Ms. Inglefield, who teaches harp in the School of Music.
The morning Zoom session will focus on fun submissions from participants. “We'll enjoy original works of harp art, videos of favorite warm-up exercises, and funny videos – like Harpo Marx,” Inglefield remarked.
After a lunch break, Caroline Mellott will present a guest recital, thanks to a grant through the local chapter of the American Harp Society. Ms. Mellott is a national competition winner, so she’s expected to present an impressive program.
The final session will be a presentation of COVID-friendly ensembles submitted by participants, and one final large ensemble – Zoom style.
“When we can all safely be together again, we'll return to in-person Harp Day. Until that time, virtual Harp Day is sure to please," Inglefield said.
