Splash! Aebersold sinks three at the buzzer

Down two points with time running out, Matt Aebersold delivered big time for the Blue Devils, nailing a three pointer at the buzzer to drop the Plattsburgh Cardinals, 76-75. The win was the second against Plattsburgh in six days.

Aebersold finished the game with 17 points on 5-8 shooting -- all three-pointers. Aaron Collins -- a second-semester addition -- continued to open eyes with a 22-point effort. Collins also nailed five threes.

Brady Woleben added 11 points. He was 3-4 from the floor and 5-6 from the line. Kreem George finished with a team-high eight rebounds and chipped in eight points.

Plattsburgh jumped out to an early lead and led most of the first half. The Devils took their first lead on a three by Collins at the 6:09 mark to go up 26-25. The rest of the half was back-and-forth, with Plattsburgh settling in for a 38-37 lead at the break.

The second half continued to be tight. Fredonia State's biggest lead of five points, 56-51, came at 12:06 mark following a jumper by Alon Kremerman. Plattsburgh led by as many as six points at three different junctures, the last coming at 71-65 with four minutes left to play. 

Plattsburgh had four players in double digits, led by Erik Salo with 19 points.

Plattsburgh led 38-36 in rebounding. Fredonia State hit 11 threes compared to three by the Cardinals. Plattsburgh went 20-31 from the line, and the Devils were 13-19.

The Cardinals fall to 2-14 and 1-8 in the SUNYAC.

The Devils are now 2-15 and 2-8 in the conference. They play host to SUNY Buffalo State on Friday in Dods Hall.

Relay sets school mark

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cameron Sample, Jordan Lockett, Jacob Winn, and Nick Marsowicz set a new Fredonia State outdoor record, finishing the race in 42.19 seconds. It was a regional-qualifying time, and .17 seconds behind the first-place Cortland team.

Pellechia earns fourth SUNYAC title

For the fourth time in four tries, pole vaulter Cara Pellechia can call herself a SUNYAC Champion. Pellechia cleared 3.50m to take the outdoor title at the SUNYAC Meet on Friday.
