SUNYAC selects Murphy as baseball Athlete of the Week

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces the PrestoSports baseball weekly awards. Fredonia's Tylor Murphy of Albany has been named the PrestoSports Baseball Athlete of the Week and Oswego's Ronald Loomis of Livonia has been named the PrestoSports Pitcher of the Week. 

Murphy went 4 for 6 (.667) in a double header split at Emory and Henry this weekend. He collected a pair of homeruns and a pair of doubles for a 2.000 slugging percentage, while driving in six runs in two games. In Game 1, he doubled and homered. In Game 2, he rapped a pinch-hit grand slam to make it a 5-4 game. He come up later in the game, and just missed his third homer with a double off the wall. 

Junior Loomis pitched five innings of one-run ball in a 13-3 win for the Lakers over Wesley College on Saturday. Loomis struck out five in helping the Lakers' record improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
