Department of History Assistant Professor Preston Decker traveled to the Greater Toronto area recently with students to explore cultures.

The 10 students were from Dr. Decker’s HIST 150 (Global Pasts), HIST 264 (East Asian Civilizations) and HIST 367 (20th Century China) courses. Supported by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dean Andy Karafa and the Fredonia College Foundation, and after a semester of exploring course themes that included the ethnic and historical diversity of the People's Republic of China, East Asia, and Central Asia, the group got an opportunity to further understand such diversity by sampling Uyghur cuisine and discussing Uyghur culture and history at Oguz Uyghur Restaurant in North York.

The group then experienced Toronto’s West Chinatown’s myriad regional Chinese (and other) cuisines and numerous shops. Students and Decker returned back to campus after the day trip with minds enriched and plenty of new memories.
