Gabby Irwin scored a goal and added an assist, while Kacey Mosher, Anna Ratchuk, and Avery Aloi also found the back of the net as Fredonia State defeated Alfred, 5-2, during the Blue Devil Classic on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.
The Blue Devils improved to 4-1 on the season, recording 23 shots, including 17 on goal, while holding Alfred to just five total shots.
Fredonia took the lead just 8:07 into the match when Irwin scored her third goal of the season. The Blue Devils doubled their advantage in the 26th minute on an Alfred own goal and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Fredonia continued to push the pace in the second half. Aloi scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute with an assist from Mosher, making it 3-0. Ratchuk extended the lead to 4-0 less than four minutes later after taking a pass from Irwin.
Alfred responded with goals from Ava Thayer and Isabelle Dennis to trim the deficit to 4-2, but Mosher sealed the victory in the 84th minute with her first goal of the season off an assist from Alyssa Sabato.
Irwin led Fredonia with 11 shots, including eight on target. Mosher finished with a goal and an assist, while Carissa Shanahan earned the win in goal for the Blue Devils. Alfred goalkeeper Lauren Mott kept the visitors in the match with 13 saves.
Fredonia held advantages in shots (23-5), shots on goal (17-3), and corner kicks (8-4) in the victory.
