The Fredonia State women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to erase a two-goal halftime deficit and earn a thrilling 3-2 victory over John Carroll on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.
Bronwyn Madden, Annika Tamppari and Anna Ratchuk were the Blue Devil goalscorers; Tamppari's was her first as a collegian. Gabby Irwin made two assists while Makayla Stainbrook had one.
John Carroll controlled the early action and built a 2-0 lead in the opening half. Julia Niehaus opened the scoring just 4:53 into the contest, and Brooke Berkowitz doubled the visitors' advantage with a goal in the 24th minute.
Fredonia State's comeback began in the 67th minute when Madden found the back of the net off an through-ball assist from Irwin. The goal was Madden's fourth of the season.
Fredonia found the equalizer as Tamppari scored in the 77th, finishing a setup from Stainbrook to pull the Blue Devils even at 2-2.
The decisive tally came in the 87th via Ratchuk, who had her fourth goal of the season. Irwin assisted the play, setting up Ratchuk's breakaway into the box.
Goalkeeper Alyssa Hatch earned the win in net with five saves.
