On Tuesday, March 6, students from Fredonia’s chapters of the Applied Communication Association (ACA) and Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) toured WKBW Channel 7 News headquarters, as well as E3 Communications, a public relations firm.

Starting at Channel 7, the groups were given a tour of the station, including both the newsroom and control room. The students were also given the opportunity to speak with employees and ask questions about how a professional newsroom is run.

From there, the groups visited E3 Communications, where they met with Brendan Hoare, a Fredonia graduate from the Class of 2016, who was able to share his own tips for securing and working in a job within the public relations discipline.

The students who went appreciated the experience.

“Our biggest takeaways from the trip were being able to see the inner-workings of a professional news station and TV studio, as well as how a firm is run,” said junior Public Relations major Hannah Wittig. “It was very beneficial to us because we got insight and advice for post-graduation from both places.”

The trip was similar to those that ACA makes each year. This was the second year in a row that the group toured Channel 7. However, since the president of ACA, Shaunna Rospierski, also serves as the secretary of PRSSA, the groups decided to take the trip together.
