Ethos to host residency by contemporary percussion/flute duo

The Ethos New Music Society will bring A/B Duo, whose contemporary percussion and flute music is described as “bouncy, strange, interesting and fun” by Civic Center Blog, to Fredonia for a residency comprised of a public concert and lecture.

The free performance will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall. It will be preceded by a lecture at 4 p.m. in Mason Hall Room 2019.

A/B Duo has commissioned many pieces that vary widely in style and instrumentation – from djembe and contrabass flute to Nintendo Gameboy and drum set. Concert-goers can expect a wide range of innovative music, while attendees of the lecture will hear the group's insights on being working professionals in the realm of contemporary music.

Since being formed in Chicago in 2013 by percussionist Christopher G. Jones and flutist Meerenai Shim, A/B Duo has performed at the Spectrum in New York City, the Green Mill in Chicago and The Center for New Music in San Francisco, as well as Eastman School of Music and Oberlin Conservatory.

A/B Duo has commissioned pieces from many composers, and radio station KDFC praised the group for "commissioning works that push the envelope." The duo is currently recording its first full-length album, tentatively titled "Ricochet," to be released in 2016. Moreover, A/B Duo is probably the only chamber group to design its own video game, Echoloquacious: the game.
