Fredonia concert to feature French chamber music

French chamber music, featuring contemporary violinist Yuki Numata Resnick and two School of Music faculty – pianist Eliran Avni, assistant professor, and cellist Natasha Farny, associate professor – will be presented on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.
The first half of the program will feature short solos by the musicians, beginning with Ms. Resnick performing a violin work by French virtuoso Eugéne Ysaӱe. Dr. Avni will present two short works by Francis Poulenc, renowned as a sparkling musical mind who offers sounds at once bubbly and vulnerable, and Avni’s transcription of a work by celebrated guitarist Roland Dyens.
Dr. Farny and Avni will conclude the first half with a transcription by Farny of Darius Milaud’s much beloved work “Scaramouche Suite.”
The second half features Maurice Ravel’s symphonic and colorful Piano Trio, a work for piano, violin and cello that’s replete with clanging gongs and other imagined sounds from the Far East, references to Malaysian poetry and breath-taking French intimacy.
Resnick has been described as a player of “virtuosic flair and dexterous bravery” by the New York Times. She holds degrees from Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan and is the founder and artistic director of Buffalo String Works, a non-profit that provides music lessons for children of refugee and immigrant families in Buffalo.
The concert will also be presented on Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Friends of Vienna concert series in Buffalo.
