Kent Knappenberger returns to keynote music education workshop at School of Music
On Saturday, Sept. 13, music educator, Fredonia alumnus and GRAMMY award winner Kent Knappenberger will host a morning filled with workshops and networking opportunities geared towards college students, music educators and the general public.
The event will be held in Mason Hall from 8 a.m. to noon. There is no registration and all sessions are free.
The morning begins with a networking breakfast at 8 a.m. with bagels and coffee, while attendees have a chance to talk informally with Knappenberger. His presentations will follow from 9 to 11:40 a.m., and then a Q&A session will conclude the event.
Knappenberger will share how he implements his music philosophies in the classroom with workshop topics that include choral techniques and working with young voices, changing voices and repertoire selection; non-traditional ensembles including how to make music with non-traditional instruments including handbells, Celtic harps, mandolins, and more; and composing and arranging for all ensembles.
He will bring members of his Westfield Academy and Central High School Ninth Grade Boys Choir, members of the hand bell choir, the Celtic/American instrumental ensembles and other music students from Westfield to demonstrate his techniques.
The event is sponsored by the Fredonia student chapters of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association of Music Education.
Knappenberger, a 1987 graduate of the Fredonia School of Music, received the inaugural annual Music Educator Award earlier this year, presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.
