SUNY Fredonia graduate student Nicole Specht has been appointed to a one-year term as the student member of the New York State Speech-Language and Hearing Association’s Board of Directors

Ms. Specht has become a very active member of the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at SUNY Fredonia. Together with Dr. Paul Blanchet, she co-authored an article on corporate speech pathology that was published in ASAH Advance for Speech-Language Pathologists and, as a graduate assistant, assisted with event logistics and planning for a major Continuing Education Unit assembly last spring. She also moderated presentations and assisted with conference proceedings at the 2007 NYSSLHA Convention.

Active participation in research led to her nomination to become the first graduate student representative of the Student Creative Activity and Research Committee at SUNY Fredonia.

Ms. Specht also volunteered, representing both her department and SUNY Fredonia, at the Special Olympics in Albany this past summer and was a co-founder and member of the Special Olympics Executive Committee.

The daughter of Eric and Maryann Specht, Ms. Specht earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Canisius College in 2002 and worked for SKM Group, a major advertising agency in Buffalo, following graduation. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and Disorders from SUNY Fredonia in 2006 before entering the graduate program. She is a graduate of Hamburg Central High School.

Ms. Specht plans to continue the study of communication sciences and disorders at the doctoral level.
