Roslin Smith’s artist documentary to be screened at opera house
“Moods, Moons and Masterpieces: A Portrait of An Artist,” a short documentary of Tom Annear by Roslin Smith, will be presented at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House on Thursday, March 30, at 7.30 p.m., prior to the feature film “The Artist's Garden: American Impressionism.”
In her film, Ms. Smith, Video Production coordinator in the Department of Communication, presents a profile of the Fredonia-based artist that explores his artistic background, influences and inner artistic voice, while also depicting how Mr. Annear’s art is integral to his lifestyle and future goals.
Annear has worked on a series of plein air paintings that celebrate the beauty and history of agricultural communities in Western New York. In these paintings, Annear conveys the unique geography, weather patterns and natural resources of the region.
Smith plans to include this film, recently shown at the Quebec City Film Festival and Miami Film Festival, in a triptych series that involves three artists.
The local screening is part of a collaborative art program exhibition, “From France to Fredonia,” between the opera house and members of the North Shore Arts Alliance. Admission to the high definition screening of “The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism” is $10 for students, $15 for community members.
