Signups begin for child/parent ‘Pathways to Music’ classes
Registration has begun for Pathways to Music, a unique series of classes offered by the Fredonia School of Music that provide opportunities for children and parents to discover the joy of music together through singing, moving, listening and dancing.
Ten weekly sessions, held at the Campus and Community Children’s Center, help to improve language, motor, creative and social skills. Each class incorporates songs, finger plays, dances, bounces, circle games, vocal and instrumental exploration, lullabies and other activities.
“In Pathways to Music, children are encouraged to explore creative expression,” explained Sonja Inglefield, who directs the program. “Every year, more research confirms the positive influence of music and movement on the healthy development of children’s bodies and brains.”
Parents say the program, offered at three levels, is a fun way to exposure children to music at a very young age, in addition to representing quality parent-child time.
The Pioneers class, for children age 6 to 24 months, will be held Saturdays, 9:30 to 10 a.m., beginning Feb. 18. Explorers, 2 and 3 year-olds, will be held Saturdays, 10 to 10:45 a.m., also beginning Feb. 18. Adventurers, 4 and 5-year-olds, will be held Tuesdays, 6:15 to 7 p.m., beginning Feb. 14. Enrollment fee is $95 for Pioneers, $125 for Explorers and Adventurers.
Classes do not meet during the second full week of March.
All three developmentally age-appropriate classes are designed for one child and one accompanying parent or guardian.
