SUNY trustees submit budget to Governor

Christine Davis Mantai

The SUNY Board of Trustees prepared and forwarded a four-part budget request for 2008-09. "These requests are under consideration by the Division of Budget and the Governor’s Office," SUNY Fredonia President Dennis L. Hefner said, "and hopefully will be reflected in the Administrative Budget scheduled for release on January 22."

The budget request includes funding for mandatory costs to fully cover inflation and to fund projected enrollment growth;

requests for additional state funding to allow strategic operating increases in key areas, such as graduate student stipends; a five percent tuition increase that would allow for additional full-time faculty and for campus-specific enhancements; and a new five-year capital construction program to support both critical maintenance and strategic initiatives.
