Toe-tapping music in spotlight at Fredonia band concert

With a theme of “Dances,” an evening full of toe-tapping is most assuredly promised at Fredonia when the All College Band presents its first concert of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 8 p.m., in King Concert Hall.

“I like all of this music because they are all real toe tappers,” exclaimed Carrie Pawelski, director. “It will be hard for the audience to remain in their seats rather than getting up and dancing around the concert hall! But if people want to get up and dance, they should.”

“We have everything from American folk dances to Scottish dances to mambos and danzons,” Dr. Pawelski added.

Selections include “Spoon River,” an American folk dance composed by Percy Grainger; “Dance of the New World,” Dana Wilson; “Four Dances,” from “West Side Story,” Leonard Bernstein; “Four Scottish Dances,” Malcolm Arnold; and “Danzon No. 2,” Arturo Marquez.

With 112 members, the All College Band represents a rich cross section of the campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.
