Even the Swedish punk band, Frantic Mantis, posted the news on its website: a SUNY Fredonia study showed that praying mantids are wise to the risks of sexual cannibalism, seeking to avoid being devoured by the opposite sex during the act of mating. Seems obvious? Well, according to Professor Bill Brown (biology) it wasn’t, and the results of his experiments in Jewett Hall have been publicized nationally.
