Prepare for the Spotlight
At Fredonia, performance is at the heart of your experience. From your first semester, you’ll rehearse, perform, and collaborate in a wide range of ensembles, building the skills and confidence needed for success on stage and beyond.
Ensemble Experiences
Music students perform in a variety of large and small ensembles, including:
- Bands: Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Concert Band
- Orchestras: College Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, opera and musical pit orchestras
- Choirs: College Choir, Chamber Choir, Camerata, University Chorus
- Jazz Ensembles: Jazz Orchestra, the award-winning New Jazz Ensemble, instrumental and vocal jazz combos
- Specialty Ensembles: guitar, percussion, saxophone, flute, bassoon, piano, and trombone ensembles
- Chamber Music: string quartets, brass and woodwind quintets, and other small ensembles
Solo and Stage Opportunities
You’ll also have opportunities to shine as a solo performer through recital seminars, School of Music recitals, juries, and degree recitals. Vocalists can audition for fully staged operas, musicals, and opera scenes productions each year.
Professional-Level Experience
Advanced students may audition for regional professional ensembles such as the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and the Erie Philharmonic. Fredonia students also regularly perform at respected summer arts programs including Artpark and Chautauqua Institution.
Ensemble participation is an essential part of every School of Music degree program, giving you consistent opportunities to perform, improve, and connect with fellow musicians.
