Dr. Closson’s professional experience includes teaching in New York State as a high school special education teacher for 13 years. He also worked as a special education teacher in Tennessee for another five years before transitioning to a district administrator position. Dr. Closson worked to create an inclusive environment in the schools he taught and supervised, and was instrumental in implementing the co-teaching model to better serve all students.

Teaching Interests

Developing a pro-inclusive mindset in new teachers by emphasizing a mindset aligned to the human capability theory to meet the needs of all students.

Research Interests

Exploring the use of the human capability theory to develop a pro-inclusive mindset in P-12 educators to assist in the transition and implementation of evidence-based practices and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) to meet the needs of all students.
