Dr. Erica Simoson

Ph.D., Colorado State University

Teaching Interests

Dr. Simoson teaches a variety of courses within the physics major as well as courses for non-majors. She is often teaching the upper level laboratory courses from Modern Physics to Electronics. She uses observation and experimental design to drive learning in introductory courses, such as Waves and Light (PHYS 131). Another interest is weaving computational methods into courses throughout the curriculum. Using computer programs to investigate physics and engineering problems allows for more real world problems and provides an additional skill set to students.

Research Interests

Dr. Simoson is an experimental physicist with interests in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. The specific research area is in ion beam precision measurements of atomic and molecular Rydberg spectroscopy to investigate fundamental properties of ions. The Ion Beam Spectroscopy research lab is located in the Science Center.
