Now that the spring 2012 semester is in full swing, Fredonia’s senior students are planning for that special walk across the commencement stage and beyond. This edition of StudeBrittney Merritt - EOP Student Spotlightnt Spotlight is shining on EOP student, Brittney L. Merritt, who is looking forward to receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences with a minor in Public Health this coming May. She is currently applying for graduate studies in Speech-Language Pathology in four locations, including Fredonia, which is at the top of her list.

Looking back on her Fredonia experience, Brittney recalls how she discovered her path to this major. In the course of the EOP Freshman Orientation Seminar course, students were assigned a project about choosing a major. Wanting to “get an A” on this assignment, she decided to write about becoming a speech-language pathologist. She got the A and never looked back. “It wasn’t until almost a year after that presentation when I realize that was the profession I wanted to pursue. Now, as a senior on the verge of graduation, I can’t help but look back and see the progress I have made. I have been very lucky in my last three years at Fredonia.” And she has been very busy as well. In the past year alone she declared her minor in Public Health; applied, qualified, and was selected for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (C-STEP); acquired two internships; and stayed on the Dean’s List throughout all of 2011 (for a total of three consecutive semesters on the Dean’s List). Brittney has also participated in Fredonia Intramurals (four years), the Communication Disorders and Sciences Society (two years), and the Women’s Club Soccer (two years).

In a few months, graduation will be here and family and friends, along with EOP, will be celebrating with Brittney at graduation. We wish her success in her future wherever it may take her. Congratulations and best wishes to Brittney!
