EOP’s Student Spotlight is focused on four participants of the men’s basketball team—Julius Bryant, Jonathan Herrera, Dior Jackson, and Ricardo Rose.
“I've been a starter on the team since I was a freshman,” said Julius, a senior sports management major from Buffalo who plays in the forward position and is the senior captain. “It takes a lot of time management to get all my academic work done as well as get all the practices and games in. But I really enjoy playing with the team.”
A junior business major from Flushing, Jonathan is a guard. “I started on the team when I was a freshman. The focus I use playing on the team has helped me stay focused on my school work."
Also a guard, Dior is a junior exercise science major from Monticello. “The team also does community service events like running blood drives and a kids-night-out basketball night. We are not only a team, but a close-knit family who challenge each other every minute of practice.”
From Niagara Falls, Ricardo is a senior sports management/exercise science major. “I am returning to the team after a two year absence and I play the guard position. Being a student-athlete is tough. We have really busy and demanding schedules. I take pride in being a student-athlete and feel blessed to do so. Being part of a team is more than just going out and playing a sport. Good friends and strong bonds are made among teammates and coaches that can last longer than a season."
The Blue Devils are coached by Kevin Moore, head coach, and Lester Harbin, assistant coach. They opened up their season November 16 in Steele Hall.
