8th Annual Intercollegiate Choral Festival in February
In what is sure to be a terrific event, the Intercollegiate Choral Festival is slated for Saturday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m., in King Concert Hall. Gregory R. Gentry, director of Choral Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will serve as festival clinician and conductor.
Dr. Gentry will work with the Fredonia Chamber, Women's and College choirs on pieces that he selected. The College Choir will sing, "Serenity," by Norwegian-born composer Ola Gjelio; the Chamber Choir will sing Claudio Monteverdi's "Dolcemente Dormiva," and the Women's Choir will perform a soon-to-be-published work, "The Composition of a Kiss" by Kevin T. Padworski. Each choir will also sing several selections with conductors Drs. Vernon Huff, Adam Luebke and Melvin Unger. The concert will close with the massed choir singing Susan Brumfield's "No Time."
The event will be live streamed.
Dr. Gentry will also offer a lecture/master class on Friday, Feb. 23 at noon in Rosch Recital Hall, sponsored by the student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
Gentry leads one of the most prominent choral programs in the nation, and Dr. Huff began his doctoral studies under Gentry at Arizona State University, where Gentry had previously served as Director of Choral Performance before moving to Colorado.
The event is supported in part with funding from the Carnahan Jackson Humanities Fund at the Fredonia College Foundation. Entry is $6 for the General Public and free for students with Fredonia ID.
