LANCASTER, Pa. -- Fredonia senior women's lacrosse players Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and Marissa Cussins (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post West) will have a new title next to their names when they take the field Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Regional. All-American.

Kleine, a fifth-year senior midfielder, and Cussins, a senior attacker, were named Second Team All-American today by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

The high-scoring pair and their teammates will take on Washington & Lee at 3 p.m. Saturday at Franklin and Marshall University.

"It's obviously a great honor for them to be recognized," head coach Amy Simon said. "They are two of the best players ever in the program, and their personal success have helped this team get where they are. It's great to have their hard work recognized."

They are the second and third All-Americans in program history. Megan Mietelski was a First Team defender in 2012.

Already the all-time Fredonia leader in assists, draw controls and caused turnovers, Kleine can nail down a fourth career record this weekend. She'll enter Saturday's game with 284 career points, two fewer than Simon, herself an outstanding player for the Blue Devils and now in her first season as head coach.

"Katie is just a workhorse for us," Simon said. "She doesn't stop and keeps the other girls going, whether we're winning or losing. She makes sure they keep their heads up until the game is over."

This season alone, Kleine has 31 goals and 49 assists. Her 79 points is second only to Cussins, who leads the team with 85 points on 59 goals and 26 assists. Kleine holds the single-season record of 86 points in 2012.

"Marissa is a great competitor," Simon said. "She always wants to win and whether she has five goals or one goal in a game, she just keeps going."

The Blue Devils (16-3) will need both players to be on their game tomorrow against Washington & Lee. The Generals (16-2) are 10th best in the nation in fewest goals allowed. They are coming off an 18-4 win over Sewanee in an NCAA first-round game last Sunday after qualifying for NCAA's by winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title.

Regional host Franklin and Marshall meets visiting Tufts in Saturday's other third round game in Lancaster. The two winners meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday for the right to advance to the national semifinals.

MISSING GRADUATION: Kleine, Cussins, and senior attacker Katie Glagolev (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) will miss their college graduation ceremony Saturday afternoon in Fredonia. Their names will be announced, along with graduation student Shelby DePew (Macedon, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon), will have their names announced at both ceremonies Saturday at Steele Hall.
