1,600-meter relay wins at RIT, moves up SUNYAC list

Fredonia's Marcus Torres

The quartet of Marcus Torres, Mike DeLand, Michael Salvati, and Alec Wright won the 4-by-400 meter relay Saturday during the men's portion of the RIT Last-Chance indoor track and field meet.

In addition to winning the event, the Blue Devils also moved up to fourth in the seeding list for the SUNYAC Indoor championship meet with a time of 3:29.70. The championship meet is next Friday and Saturday at Houghton College.

Fredonia's other top running performances Saturday were personal-bests by Noah Watkins in the 5,000 meters and by Kyle Egan in the 3,000 meters. Also, Torres finished third in the 400 meters and Wright sixth in the 200 meters.

Top field performances came from Gus Alvarez Jr. and Jonah McGrath, second and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault; a second-place by Nick Serafin in the high jump; and a personal-best by Aaron Cember in the 35-pound weight throw.

The Fredonia State men's track and field team had a strong showing this weekend at Westminster. The meet featured a number of Division I, II, and III schools. Cameron Sample had the top individual performance, a fourth place in the triple jump, and the 4x100 relay team took first place.
