Dr. Randy Krauss, ’86, will give the featured Department of Biology talk at SUNY Fredonia’s Homecoming celebration.

Dr. Krauss’ talk, “From Campus to Career: Forty Years of Lessons, Luck, and Laughs” is slated for Friday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. in the Kelly Family Auditorium in the university’s Science Center. It will be followed by a reception in the Science Center atrium. All are welcome to attend the free lecture. He describes his talk as a fun and honest look at a 40-year journey “from these very classrooms to a career filed with opportunities and lessons that no textbook ever taught.” Krauss will share stories of taking chances, adapting to change, finding great mentors, and discovering “that success is rarely a straight line.” He will explore “why curiosity, resilience, humor, and a willingness to say ‘yes’ can open doors you never imagined.”

Krauss is Head and Executive Director of Operational Enablement and Effectiveness within Global Clinical Trial Operations (GCTO) at Merck & Co. His group helps teams turn trusted operational data into meaningful insights, actions, and decisions, enabling effective oversight and more efficient execution across GCTO to help bring vaccines and treatments to patients sooner and more safely.

Following his SUNY Fredonia years, where he earned his B.S. in Recombinant Gene Technology, Krauss earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University Alabama at Birmingham. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. Following this, he spent four years in academic at the Boston University School of Medicine as a Lab Coordinator at a biotechnology training program and as an Instructor of Biochemistry.

Krauss joined Merck in 2016 after holding similar roles at Genzyme/Sanofi, Shire, and Alexion, where his work focused on portfolio management, operational performance, metrics, analytics, and clinical operations support.
