Devils hang on to clip Cortland

Fredonia completed a weekend home sweep with a 5-4 SUNYAC men's hockey win over Cortland.

Luke Rivera (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) scored a pair of goals and Ethan Kirbis (Clarence) netted the game-winner for the second straight night as the Blue Devils won their fourth straight game and moved into third place in the conference standings.

Victory Tracy (Stockholm, Sweden) and Colin Valentine (Turnersville, N.J.) also scored for the Blue Devils, who improved to 5-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the SUNYAC -- three points back of Geneseo and one point back of Plattsburgh.

Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 29 saves and improved to 4-0 this season in the Fredonia net.

Alex Storjahann, Martin Lavilee, Mike Sciore, and Shane Beaulieu scored for the Cortland, which trailed 3-0 before rallying late. The Red Dragons fell to 3-5-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the SUNYAC.

Saturday was the final home game of 2018 for the Blue Devils, who'll play at U. Mass.-Dartmouth next Saturday.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
