Devils nearly sweep Behrend

Anna Chiacchia and Avril King did not lose a set as the Fredonia State women's tennis team soundly defeated Penn State Behrend, 8-1, on Sept. 4.

Chiacchia and King won both sets 6-0 and 6-0. Sarah Bunk, Jane Chiacchia, Taylor Marelli, and Dominique Martello each won their singles matches.

No. 1 doubles Anna Chiacchia and Bunk won 8-3, and Jane Chiacchia and Marelli took No. 2 doubles at 8-1.

Fredonia's only defeat came at No. 3 doubles as King and Emma Nortey were edged 8-7 (10-8).

Fredonia improves to 2-0 on the season.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
