Devils net conference foe, now 6-0

The Golden Eagles of Brockport put up a challenge, but the Fredonia State women's tennis team continued to roll, winning 6-3 and improving its season record to 5-0 on Saturday.

The Devils took the top four singles and second and third doubles. Brockport earned wins in fifth and six singles, and No. 1 doubles.

In singles, Sarah Bunk took the No. 1 spot with 6-0, 6-4 wins; Anna Chiacchia took No. 2 with 6-2, 6-1 wins; Mikayla Johnson  won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3; and  Jane Chiacchia won 6-3, 6-3 in fourth singles.

Johnson and Bunk won No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 score, and Taylor Marelli and Avril King avenged their singles defeats by winning No. 3  doubles, 8-4.

It was also the first conference match for Fredonia. Brockport falls to 2-2.

The Fredonia State baseball team extended its win streak to four games with 10-4 and 5-4 wins over visiting Hilbert College on Monday. Christian Pagano connected for a two-run homerun in Game 1, his third in as many games. Alex Gannon added a two-run blast of his own in the opener.

Day 2 results at Cortland

The 4x100 relay team took third place, and turned in a AARTFC qualifying time on the second day of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Jacob Winn -- a member of the relay team -- also turned in a third place in the finals of the 100m dash.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.
