Two new digital humanities projects created by Fredonia students were launched on Sunday, Nov. 28, on the Reed Library website to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the birth of author Stefan Zweig.

The projects were produced for the ENGL 399 Digital Humanities: Stefan Zweig course and utilized physical and digitized primary source materials from Fredonia’s own Stefan Zweig Collection, as well as materials from the Stefan Zweig Digital Project, in their creation.

The first project, “Stefan Zweig and the Legacy of Letter from an Unknown Woman,” was created by Olivia Frazer, a junior English major from Franklin, Ind., and focused on Mr.  Zweig’s relationship with the film industry, the licensing of his works for film adaptation and the success of his most-adapted work, “Letter from an Unknown Woman.”

The second project, “Zweig in America: The 1939 Lecture Tour,” was created by Ashley Halm, a junior majoring in Theatre Arts and English from Painted Post, and Devin White, a sophomore English Education major from Fillmore, and used video narration with an enriched digital map to trace the lecture tour that Zweig traveled during his 1939 visit to the United States to present his lectures, “The History of Tomorrow” and “The Secret of Artistic Creation.”

The projects, placed on the Virtual Exhibits page of the Reed Library Special Collections & Archives Division website, will remain available for public viewing permanently as a fixture of the Student-Created Projects section of the Virtual Exhibits page.

More information about the Stefan Zweig Digital Project can be found online.
