Dr. Wentao Cao is a guest editor of a newly published special issue of the Journal of Asian Earth Sciences: X.

Dr. Cao is an associate professor in the Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences.

The volume, titled “Tectonic evolution of cratonic blocks and orogenic belts of the Tethys domain in Asia,” brings together international research examining the formation and evolution of continental crust and mountain belts across Asia.

Cao served as one of the guest editors alongside colleagues from institutions in China and the United States. The special issue compiles new studies addressing how tectonic processes, including continental collision, subduction, and crustal deformation, shaped major geological regions within the ancient Tethys domain. These regions record complex histories of plate interaction and mountain building that are fundamental to understanding the geological evolution of Asia and the Earth’s continental crust.

The publication includes contributions and highlights advances in geological fields (structural geology, petrology, geochemistry and geochronology) that help reconstruct the geological history of cratonic blocks and mountain belts.

The complete special volume is available online through the Journal of Asian Earth Sciences: X.
