It was a day of first for two playoff-bound Fredonia Blue Devils in their 3-2 win over the Morrisville State Mustangs, the final regular-season of the men's hockey season.

Sophomore defenseman Tommy Martyn and freshman winger Tanner Kahlau each scored their first collegiate goals in the victory, a prelude to the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament. Junior winger Jacob Haynes also scored for the Blue Devils, who improved to 14-7-4 overall and 8-6-2 in the SUNYAC.

Next up is a conference first-round game Wednesday at SUNY Buffalo State.

Jesse Anderson and Darius Radziszewski had the Morrisville State goals.

The Blue Devils jumped to a 2-0 in the first period. Haynes put Fredonia on top 1-0 with a power-play goal at 3:50 before the first collegiate goal Martyn, playing in his 50th collegiate game, gave his team a 2-0 lead at the 6:41 mark.

After a scoreless second period, Anderson cut the Fredonia lead in half, 2-1, when he beat Fredonia goaltender Anton Rosen with a power-play goal at 3:20 of the third period. 

Kahlua broke onto the scoring sheet at 5:10 of the third to restore Fredonia's two-goal lead, 3-2. He was playing in just his third collegiate game. Radziszewski completed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 18:21 of the third period

Making his eighth start of the season, Rosen made 22 saves to improve to 4-2-2. Jared Young was credited with 27 stops for the Mustangs.

The Blue Devils improved to 11-0-3 when they score first.

After qualifying for the finals on Friday, Cara Pellechia finished fourth in the 100m dash, and also turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200m for the top two finishes for the Fredonia State women's track and field team.

Comeback powers sweep

Freshman Madison Lowe -- who homered earlier in the game -- delivered the big hit in a three-run seventh as the Fredonia State softball team overcame a two-run deficit to win Game 2, 7-6, over Oswego on Saturday. The Devils were 13-8 winners in Game 1.
